Our corps of volunteers enables us to serve many more clients than we could with staff alone. They include attorneys starting out, retired and in-between– paralegals, bookkeepers, clerical assistants, social workers, students in all these fields and others interested in helping with client service, outreach, office tasks and more.

Volunteer Opportunities

We are always seeking volunteer attorneys to advise and assist California seniors by phone. Volunteers work alongside staff returning calls to clients, offering legal advice regarding the client’s problem, sending written information and in some cases, providing additional services such as document review, calls or letters to adversaries, family members or other parties, and some negotiation.

Time commitment is negotiable, although to allow for the best training and orientation, a minimum of 12 hours a month for at least six months is preferred. More is preferable, and consistency is especially important while getting started. Actual hours for our currently active volunteers vary widely.

Opportunities for Students

Law Student Internships

Candidates interested in interning at Senior Legal Hotline will go through LSNC’s hiring process. The LSNC Summer Intern Program is a 10-week internship that takes place during the months of June through August. We will begin accepting resumes in December and decisions will be mailed out in March. Social Work Field Study

We offer a semester internship for students currently enrolled in a social work program at California State University Sacramento. This internship is coordinated through the department and any questions about this placement should be directed to the field study placement coordinator.
